Nothing of note so far, but it's been a wet winter and one can guarantee there will be wildfires.

Can an Admin / Mod sticky this for the year? Thanks.

The small brush and wildland fires that require only a single Engine or Brush Truck have started in and around Maricopa and Yavapai counties. Keep an eye out and please report them here.

I don't know when it started, but Avondale FD is working a brush fire at Broadway and Dysart Rds. E171 and Brush 171 are on scene, along with MCSO. I see it listed on the Phoenix FD incident page.

This is good news. I don't get to listen to the Tonto like I would prefer to. When I visit family in the Phoenix area it is winter or anytime the temperature is under 80 degrees so they aren't very active then. There are three NF's being streamed here in California, which allows me to keep up with how those forests operate, but I don't know of any in USFS Region 3 (AZ and NM), which is where I started my USFS career. I would like to hear them so I thank you for getting this feed up and running.

I should add that my wife and I have a friend in Payson who tries to keep us up to date, but being able to hear the traffic live myself will be much better.

I'm located very close to the Crooks fire area, there's about 20 active frequencies but in addition to those listed above (especially the PNF fire net at 173.925), these are very active with a very high signal strength in the area:

167.625 - A2G 3 most active aircraft frequency. Lots of good information on fire locations and movement.
167.175 - A2G 1 much less active aircraft frequency

151.13 - YCSO "Task Force 16" using a 156.7 PL tone (151.13 with a 114.8 PL tone is Net 1 on Bill Williams, so this must be some type of portable repeater. Used to coordinate roadblocks in the area.)

155.01 - Mutual aid fire, mostly Groom Creek FD and Walker FD

Also 155.04 YCSO Mt Union SAR was very active during the Walker evacuation, quiet now.

Yep, typo, 155.4 not .04. Good catch.

Some other incidental frequencies that are active with very high signal strength meaning they're at/over the fire itself:
155.7075 - Fire command (Prescott FD channel 8 wildland urban interface if I read this right)
168.65 - USFS Flight following, minor activity from the aircraft
159.33 - Arizona Dept. of Forestry and Fire Management TAC 1

I'm also seeing a couple federal common crew net frequencies active in the area but not quite so strong,
mostly minor chatter within the fire crews:
167.1375 - federal common primary crew net
173.625 - federal common tertiary crew net (this seems to have more activity than primary)

Air to ground frequencies have been reshuffled for the Flagstaff dispatch center. Primary is now Air-Ground 57, 168.7250; Secondary Air-Ground 32, 166.9625 and Tertiary Air-Ground 56, 168.6625. These are the initial attack frequencies assigned for day to day use and have nothing to do with whatever is assigned to the Tunnel Fire extended attack. I've been meaning to submit these to the database for the last couple of weeks, but procrastinated.

Picking up additional air traffic at the Crooks fire on 169.15 (tagged as NIRSC Air 2 in the RR database.)

Air to Air or Air to Ground?

Self-identified as "air attack, air to ground primary."

Picking up quite a few NIFC/NIRSC frequencies, I think some are covering the Tunnel fire outside of Flag due to how weak they are, but for the Crooks fire, strong local signal strength on both the 169.15 already mentioned and also on 170.425 NIRSC Command 3 with high amounts of traffic. Also strong signals but very low traffic 163.1 NIRSC Wide 2.

Weak signals on almost all NIRSC Tac channels, with moderate traffic on channels 1, 2 and 5 (168.05, 168.2, 166.775), weak signals but that's probably due to lower power and being on the ground.

Brief (but large) increase in traffic on 122.925 (air to air, NIRSC Air 1) a lot of the traffic sounds like what I was hearing on 167.625 a couple days ago, lots of good info on fire locations and planning.

Can I ask where you are? Are you using an external antenna, etc? Thanks.

I'm in the Groom Creek area just past the northern edge of the evacuated areas, and 2-4 miles north of the fires, most of the tankers/helis are flying directly overhead within a few thousand feet of me. Antenna is an external discone mounted about 20' up. Just about perfect conditions and location for listening, though I'd prefer to not be in the "set" stage for evacuating. Scanners are Uniden BCD996P2 and BCD996T.

I don't think anyone who's not in the immediate area will be able to hear the NIRSC Tac channels, but anyone in Prescott/Prescott Valley should be able to hear the Air frequencies.

Also, I'm not hearing it very well, but I'm picking up retardant load/refuel traffic (presumably at Prescott airport) on 163.1 MHz, it's probably a lot easier to hear in Prescott proper nearer to the airport.

Yeah you’re close. I’m up above the courthouse, Up Copper Basin if that rings a bell. I can only hear the air attack channel; I just have a held held Uniden. I did drive up Senator to the road block and heard a bit more on various freqs. Luckily fire is burning south so you should be ok. The season is starting way too early.
