Wasn't there supposed to be something relatively minor introduced in the first half of the year?

I saw a thread that the European version got a firmware update but there are no release notes and apparently that's a different entity than USA? There may be an improvement with audio on the 100?

The only updates I've heard about since Paul Opitz's last update in April of 2019 was to accommodate new hardware which I guess would be in the newest radios so I never bothered with any of them.

I only listen to the same things year after year on the 100 and 200 and everything works fine in my situation luckily so I just stopped looking for any firmware updates. (Shrugs).

Looking for firmware updates could be looking for trouble. For me, the Uniden SDS line works just fine, and I would be very wary of anything which could potentially screw that up.

In terms of new units, there is really not much that Uniden can do to exceed what's already been done with the SDS scanners. For the more advanced hobbyist, perhaps a base unit something along the lines of the Icom R-8600..... a Uniden unit with a spectrum scope and coverage from 10 KHz up to 3000 MHz. Of course it would have to be priced significantly less than the Icom, otherwise why reinvent the wheel?

With the component shortages and newer "secure" concepts (including encryption) there is not much to motivate new devices. Although not a true scanner by many opinions, one of the best radios, the IC-R30 reached the end of production with no hint of anything new to come from one of the largest and best known companies.

I read some room for improvements in this thread

Yep go for it. Months go in to years, years going to decades. You hang in there, we all support you, no matter how it ends up being.:p:LOL::p... at some point we have to face reality.

More than 1 year ago, John Bearcat probed interest in a digital scanner without TrunkTracker.Maybe even without DMA memory. Only again with memory banks.
So hopefully nothing like that will happen!!

I was responding to the statement that looking for firmware updates could be looking for trouble. We had Beta firmware, that if it caused a degradation in the scanners performance, we could always dial it back to the current firmware. Every so often a post of "my scanner works fine, what else do you all want" pop up. By going through this over 1,000 response thread, it shows room for improvements can be made and are needed. For me personally, one of my systems I monitor regularly has converted from Phase 1 to Phase 2 almost exclusively, and am seeing some of the anomalies others have described, so would like to see that improvement. Others have mentioned Phase 2 control channels that are coming on line, and while that doesn't effect me yet, I'm sure those that monitor these systems would sure like to see it resolved.

But yes, I agree with your thoughts on this ongoing subject. Over time, I see others are growing increasingly frustrated with the lack of participation or urgency coming from Uniden. I get caught up on Scanner Guy(s) You Tube and have also noticed the frustration with the non-response to join the show for a live Q & A. I think the excuses are running thin, and it would be time to start seeing attention to these issues.

I'm curious. For an SDS100, what would you like to see changed or added? What is available now that wasn't since release in 2018 that it can't handle or doesn't handle well? Maybe I'm missing something?

Take a look at the thread and see what others have to say. I have my wish list, but it's just a small sampling of the big picture.

I'm a fairly new SDS200 owner (about 3 months) and have been pleased with it so far, but I would like to see the custom service types be truly customisable. I'd also like to see a squelch offset, as I like to have my squelch all the way open on digital trunked systems but that doesn't work too well on analogue ;) .

I have a SDS 200, I had to open it up and ground the screen properly. You would think that would warrant an upgrade? How about slow scan tv capability? System Fusion and D-Star decoding? APRS message viewing? I can go on and on.

Those are pretty esoteric desires in the grand scheme of things, and the take rate on those offerings wouldn't even cover the engineering costs, I'm willing to bet.

I'm sure you know shades I was just kidding and the post was not meant to be serious, just sheer sarcasm which is pretty much apropos with this subject now. Nobody's kidding anybody. That year long thread with over a thousand posts before it crashed and burned says it all.

This subject is what it is at face value. Again the ASPCA frowns upon beating dead horses. :)

The screen grounding was permanently fixed over a year ago.

I don't think anything like that is going to happen to the existing radios, even if there was someone with the ability to do such things and the existing radios had that capability to modify, it wouldn't be cost-effective.

Those are pretty esoteric desires in the grand scheme of things, and the take rate on those offerings wouldn't even cover the engineering costs, I'm willing to bet.

I agree, I'm just thinking in terms of a little tweaking here and there, Paul Opitz Style. There was a time that firmware updates flowed on a regular basis.. I can't help feeling that capability went with Paul.

Not sure how much Uniden could improve on a new scanner unless they are dipping there toes into HF. But would be nice to see a better menu system and tweaking the firmware. I like using zip code and distance. Would like to have 3 different zip code options so I don't have to unselect and select different things to scan.

I would be happy with scrolling text labels for channels, groups, systems. If the text is longer than can be displayed, scroll the whole line. Even make the scroll rate adjustable.
