I been seeing comments in some of the treads in reference to the RNC in Milwaukee this summer. I thought it might make sense to start a thread related so there is one place for information once the event gets closer. I have been checking news to see if there is any training scheduled ahead of time where there may be new radio traffic. It sounds like there have been training events here and there since November. Not sure if they involved any communications training. Once thing I did find was an article about MPD renting space in Glendale for temporary headquarters during the convention. They were talking about renting a building at 4160 N. Port Washington Road in Glendale to house 4500 law enforcement personnel. The building was formally used by the. Department of Corrections.

Here's a link to the article - it's not behind a pay wall for me. Please comment if doesn't work for others.

Thanks for posting this. The RNC convention is going to provide us with some very interesting scanning opportunities. We are going to see talk groups on the various local systems that that have never seen activity suddenly come to life for this convention. I wouldn’t be surprised to also see activity on the federal government systems and frequencies also become active.

and for those who are not familiar with or have not monitored your local FEDS lately, this is the time to begin seeing what is out there, before they bring in the Temp stuff (See NIFOG etc) for the event - aka get a base line now.

According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the law enforcement headquarters for the RNC is going to be in Greendale at 60th & West Loomis Rd (5400 S. 60th St). The building was once home to Reiman Publications (Taste of Home). The Glendale location that was mentioned earlier was ranked below this site (there were eight contenders). The $727k lease runs from 3/4/2024 to 8/31/2024.

Now we have to see if there is any FCC license activity . . .

Here's pictures of the building:

Wisconsin Governor Evers also pre-emptively issued an emergency declaration on Wednesday 05/29/2024 at the request of the City of Milwaukee and Wisconsin Emergency Management agency.

This pre-emptive issuance allows for easier and more pro-active cooperation between local and out-of-state law enforcement agencies for security duties and gives all participating officers the power of arrest, according to the order.

Since this is a low powdered system, any idea how far out this system can be heard?

Depending on the way the building is built (steel, concrete, etc) maybe a mile or two at best. A recent outdoor music festival had a similar system setup (from same company) and it was under a mile.

Don't forget the WISCOM S.O.W. (Site on Wheels) - I'm sure it will make an appearance...
With it being wisconsin dairy state can we call it c.o.w. communication/s on wheels?

Anyone catch the preparedness exercise held Tuesday 06/11?

The G-TAC talkgroups were fairly busy going through various scenarios.

Heard about it...no indications on-air of an exercise, so some locals thought some bad shizz was going down. Exercises are great, but when you're simulating bad things, it's pretty important that other users 1.) know the exercise is happening and 2.) participants use the words "this is an exercise" on the radio.

That's why it pays to keep those TG's on the scanner. They just have to announce it once and if someone misses it, too bad. I would imagined that they would use an encrypted TG for a real situation but a clear one for auxiliary purposes.
