In RR Tavern there is a thread about the 205 mPH ticket just written by Minnesota's finest. The following link will take you there to 'bring you up to speed' on talk about it. There is even a link in that thread to a picture of the bike and the ticket.

Several questions are mentioned as to how much will be the fines under Minnesota's law? Will there be any jail time for this type of offense?

Also I am curious as to how often does Minnesota use aerial surveillance of the highways? Does anyone try to monitor their radio traffic to the ground units as sort of a personal head's up that there is a 'bear in the air'?

What would have happened if this kid had not stopped? I believe there was a fair chance he could have even outrun the plane if the roads were straight enough in that area. Do you think any patrol car could have possibly matched his speed? If they had tried to use a spike strip on him that would have been the same as murder IMHO.

This forum is probably not the place to answer thsoe questions but I figure here one would find any experts on Minnesota policy.

Post your reply over in RR Tavern if you don't thik this is the spot to discuss that record breaking ticket.

Thanks for any input.

Minnesota uses aircraft to check speed and observe traffic from time to time. They have several helicopters and airplanes.

In the Rochester area, the aircraft come from the Mankato area.

The speed is check from the aircraft. The description of the speeder is radioed to patrol car on the ground near the speeder. The speed is check and radioed to the patrol car several times before the patrol car checks the speed and then the speeder is stopped.

If a scanner listener is close, the communications between the aircaft and patrol car can be heard.

I have listened to the MNSP using aircraft many times. The last time was in September 2004, during a trip to Minnesota to visit my daughter.
