I see from looking at the WIKI that the 2055 must be returned to RS Service for reband
while the Pro96 does not.

Can you reband it with Win97?
(Hey this may a stupid question til rebanding occurs here, but I appreciate all "best quess"
estimates.)

If you can reprogram it why couldn't you reband it?

safetyobc- does seem logical per RS statement. Makes me shy-away from 2055 even at the sale-price though...

Not me. I picked one up for $179.99 and couldn't be happier. I use if mainly on VHF-High but do have a couple 800 systems that come in sometimes. I'd definatley buy again if need be. I also have the Pro-97 and think both of them are GREAT. Much better reception than my BCD396T.

If you read the rebanding wiki, which is found at...

http://www.radioreference.com/wiki/index.php/Rebanding

you'll see a section about why many scanners won't work after this happens. I would assume a firmware change would be required, and at least in the case of RS/GRE scanners, that would likely mean you would have to return it to Fort Worth (or somewhere they designate) to have this done.

Keep in mind, tho, that nothing is written in stone. I understand the state of Utah has gotten the prelim OK from the rebanding committee, so it looks as though they will be the guinea pigs for rebanding. The manufacturers will need to see what happens with this before they can set policy or take any kind of action.
