220 mhz radio

I have one, and so far I'm satisfied with the rig. I also own the Alinco rig as well. Comparing the two there are similarities and some differences. The appear to use the same display, the Alinco is back lit orange and the Jetstream blue. They appear to use the same processor chip as the fucntions and controls are nearly identical. If you can operate one then you can operate the other. The microphones are interchangeable. I haven't cracked mine open yet but they seem to use a little different rf circuitry. The Alinco uses a 30.85 mhz 1st IF and a 455 khz 2nd IF, while the Jetstream uses a 21.7 1st IF and a 450 khz 2nd IF. Checking the performance into a service monitor and in the real world use indicate nearly identical performance in sensitivity and selectivity. I measured 50 watts out of the Jetstream into the service monitor and 54 watts on a Bird into a 5/8 wave Larson, with the motor running, suppling the unit with about 14.2 volts. I have found the difference in rf power output of the two units to be not really an issue in the real world, after all it's only 3db. The Alinco may be build a bit more rugged (I've had it for a few years), but time will tell. I have not noticed the unit getting excessively warm with use at 50 watts out. Over all I'm pleased with the Jetstream unit, so far.

I love 220!

I have the Alinco, and it is a good rig. The only problem I have with it is the scan. Mine doesn't look for PL/DPL on scan, so if I have a channel programmed with a PL and a carrier with no PL or a different PL appears on the channel, the scan still stops. I hate that! They should have made it look for carrier AND PL/DPL on the scan. Otherwise it is a good rig.

How about the Jetstream? Does it do the same, or is it smart enough to skip over channels in scan without the proper code?

Phil
