Had a little accident yesterday & it had to happen to the 246 I never take out.

I was testing out my new homebrew yagi and was climbing in the attic with the 246 in my back pocket, as soon as I lifted my last leg in I felt it slip. I reached back into my pocket to see if it was still there and nothing, it felt like an eternity but I finally heard it......BAM.....it hit the concrete floor.

It looked like it survived minus the volume/squelch knob was busted. I turn it on & have no audio nor does it pick up anything.

Question is, is the price on Unidens website a flat rate to fix it plus any parts that they have to ship in if any?

Thanks

If you are good with a soldiering iron, you can fix it yourself. It sounds like you just need to resoldier the BNC connector back to the board and then the Volume pot probably.

Uniden's basic repair charge is about $50.00, and usually includes parts (per the notes on the page). If it was major damage (like the pc board, instead of just a bnc or the volume/squelch pot), then you'd probably get a notification with an updated estimate.

From the repair page:
Flat rate repair charges are for out-of-warranty products and in most cases, include all parts and labor necessary to bring your product back to the original specifications.

I drop my 246T a lot... is there no sound at all or is it just a static sound?

I have 2 246's, one I keep in the house & the other I use while out & about. I have dropped the one I take out numerous times, its all beat up.

The one I dropped looks brand new, it fell about 12 feet onto concrete. I did not have an antenna on it since I was climbing up in the attic to test a yagi & see where I need to adjust it too.

There is no audio at all, I turn it on & you cannot hear any beeps. Once it was on I was scanning and nothing. I came in the scanner room and tuned into a freq being use and the scanner dropped would not even pick it up. Absolutely no audio and will not pick up freqs.

To Scanfan03, if I were to do that, what do I do about the bent volume pin and the busted volume/squelch knob?

I would try bending it back or try buying new ones from Uniden.

I have one here that was dropped and it broke the connector that attaches the 2 boards together and shows the exact same symptoms.
