246T USB Port Cover question

Is there any ay you can get it to stay tight after its been used a few times without taping it down?
Cover tends to bow up in middle and doesn't protect the USB port very well

Give it time and it will. Its really no big deal.

I used the Port twice & it began bowing up. What I'm worried about is that on both side of the flap there is a gap between it & the case where dust & stuff can get into the connector.

Sounds like you don't have it seated completely.

The cover has a small tab that fits into a hole in the case and even though I press down on the cover with my thumb for a few moments, soon as I move my thumb the hump in the cover returns and the tab is still in the hole.
Whe you hold the 246 so you can look front to back on side the USB port's on you can see light between it & the case.

I was thinking there was something preventing the tab from going into its slot. I looked, and mine is very slightly bowed up, but not enough to let dirt in. I had one of the first ones out, so it's at least as old as any of them out there. I program it about once every week or two now that most of my stuff is in there.

Anyway, back to the original topic: At present it looks like I'll have to tape it down considering that with the bow daylight's visible along most of the length of the cover.
Messy, but at least will help keep the connector clean.

My cover doesn't do this, yet.(it's pretty new) I can see how it might be beginning to bulge slightly, but it still closes.

I went ahead and put a piece of tape over the cover. Messy, but better than getting the connector full of dust & debris.
Still hope someone on the Board, or at Uniden has a solution to keeping the cover firmly seated though.

I think there was an undeserved post made, but it wasn't his.

The idea of holding a piece of rubber into place for it to hold that shape is a valid concept. The tape was mentioned, too. Anything that holds it in place is a valid way to make it conform to its original shape.

I was thinking of setting it on a desk with the rubber face down overnight and letting it mold back into shape.

You could also try making it bend the other way for a while so it is concave vs convex (or is that vice versa?) so the tab that holds it in would be able to better do its job.

I got so fed up with mine, after trying several things, that I just cut it off! :x

I'll find something to replace it one of these days and I'll post it in case anyone might need it.

Held it down like suggested. When I released it, the bow in the cover returned.
Wish Companies would come up with a better cover idea, but guess a solid cover with hinges wouldn't be feasible, what with the flexing at the joint, though.....

That sucks. Mine is still staying closed so it worked well for me. I Don't think I would worry to much about it. There is no cover on most ports on many radios including the 246 (ear plug and power jack) and they have no problems.
