Thanks, Marcy57, I have tried all day and night and cannot pick up anything, I am in a six-story building and I am on the fourth floor with my discone antenna facing north out on my balcony, cannot pick anything up.

The geostationary satellites will all be south of you, some to the south east and some to the south west but looking north is a no go for antennas. Plus a Discone even in the clear is marginal at best. Is radiation pattern is ok for low on the horizon satellites but not so good for high upward angles.

Thanks for the information, I thought I was pointed in the wrong direction.

I haven’t had as much luck on my 436 as with my icoms and yupiteru but it does catch them . I use a 5 kHz spacing , 255.850 is common for instance .

I just took my Pro-43 with the rubber duck antenna outside and copy the "Car Alarm" on 261.825 so I do not think you need some special antenna to get them I get a bunch on my 400mhz Yagi also...73,s Marcy

I took an SO239 connector and cut 4 - 9" pcs of electrical wire and attached quick disconnects on each and soldered disconnects on where the radiator and radials connect to make it take-apart portable and put a 9' pc of RG58 cable on and mounted it on a short broom stick to hold and it works pretty well not only outside, but inside the house too. You would be surprised how holding it in different positions will bring in the satcom signals. Siince these sats have a wide passband, I use an AOR8000 scanner and tune 2.5KHz off freq from the 25KHz spaced freqs: example: freq 261.650 I tune 261.6525 and 261.6475 where sometimes the Pirates come in clearer. It's best to have the squelch on just enough to eliminate the hash as having turned too far up will not allow the weaker tx in.
