Steve,
I don't know if it related but it is quite similar to some activity I heard a few weeks ago when I was headed up to Lake Placid for a little vacation. About 40 miles west of Syracuse I caught a PYTHON flight of four getting clearance into the FALCON MOA (Near Syracuse) and they switched to 254.20 within the MOA. While there they split off into two groups, PYTHON 1 & 2 and COBRA 1 & 2. They were practicing intercepts and did some brief engagements. The terminology they used was similar to what you have above giving Bearing, Distance, and Altitude of targets. While in the MOA the PYTHONs used 138.30 (AM) and the COBRAs used 138.20 (AM). All players were on 254.20 to knock off the engagements.

:) Thanks for the information dparana, I did some searches on google and find it is a Norad frequency and now that you mention it I think I herd the word COBRA too, I have punched in all Norad frequencies into my scanner and will start to scan them and see if there are other Norad frequencies in this area that are active, The transmissions were very clear and loud.

The "HUNTERS" was probably HUNTRESS, a NORAD controller which would fit for your 254.2 frequency.

Cobras are out of Syracuse (174th) and the Pythons are A-10's out of Massachusetts somewhere. They come up to the Fort Drum, NY (Falcon MOA) area almost everyday to play. Besides 254.200 they were using 377.100 (ZBW ATCC) and another UHF freq that escapes me right at the moment. I don't have an outside antenna yet, so they may have been using others, plus I was not monitoring any VHF air.

I wonder where the A-10's come from, my family owns a boat and it was over the summertime when we were anchored out by this swim hole in Lake George when we seen two A-10's like very low level flying look like practicing low coverage flying. It was interesting to seem them.

We will be seeing fewer A-10s over the next year or so as the 103rd transitions to a new aircraft type. I think it will be the F-15 Eagle, although the Air Force has designated the Eagle for retirement and is replacing it with the F-22 Raptor.

Well that's a shame. Although we have A-10's down here at different bases, I'm going to miss the frequent visits of the A-10's from Bradley.

The 103rd Fighter Wing at Bradley is converting to the C-21 mission. The last of the Hogs will be gone from the 103rd by October 2008, the end of the fiscal year. It's the 104th at Barnes that is converting to the F-15s - and already has 10 of them that have arrived so far of the eventual total of 18.
