• Effective immediately we will be deleting, without notice, any negative threads or posts that deal with the use of encryption and streaming of scanner audio.

We've noticed a huge increase in rants and negative posts that revolve around agencies going to encryption due to the broadcasting of scanner audio on the internet. It's now worn out and continues to be the same recycled rants. These rants hijack the threads and derail the conversation. They no longer have a place anywhere on this forum other than in the designated threads in the Rants forum in the Tavern.

If you violate these guidelines your post will be deleted without notice and an infraction will be issued. We are not against discussion of this issue. You just need to do it in the right place. For example:

jlh,

Thanks for the link. It seems that the Spanish/Portuguese comms are all over the place up there.

I would bet that its a harmonic... even cable boxes are messy and put out junk in that range so if you are watching scola or something of the sort you might find that junk in there... there are several bands that overlap into cable's domain of CCTV... just another consideration if they didnt mention it on the other thread

Well the satellites belong the US government but what you heard were South American pirates who have been bootlegging on these DoD birds for years. You will hear lots of Portuguese and Spanish which will be these guys. Most other traffic is encrypted these days. If you are extremely patient though, once in a blue moon you will catch the occasional transmission in the clear.
