Trying to get another brand recommendation
It is difficult to compare models. Must have dual receive, 5 watts, rugged.
My current 2m ht is an Icom V86 and I love it. (that should calibrate you).

Rugged is somewhat subjective. I'm not aware of any way to measure or test for "ruggedness".

I believe that Alinco, Icom, Kenwood, and Yaesu all have radios that will meet your other requirements. I own both a Kenwood TH-D74A, which has been replaced by the TH-D75A, and a Yaesu FT5DR that are dual-band, dual-receive, and rated for 5 watts.

Do you really mean dual receive, as in "I can listen to two different frequencies simultaneously"? Or is dual watch (where the radio monitors two but will switch to the first one with traffic) sufficient? Or did you mean "dual band"?

You won't find very many HTs with true dual receive. Off the top of my head I can think of the Kenwood TH-F6A (discontinued but readily available) and the Kenwood TH-D75A (top of the line with a price that matches). I'm sure there are more but most dual band HTs with dual VFOs are dual watch.

You should throw in your budget as well.. The Kenwood TH-D75 and the Icom ID-52 fit the bill, but both are north of $600.00

Your options are quite limited for true dual receive. Kenwood, Icom and Yaesu all have dual, simultaneous receive. Some of them are listed above. For Dual Watch(one frequency at a time Receive, but priority on a second frequency it checks at regular intervals), they only actively receive one signal at a time.

There are a bunch of radios that fall into that Dual-Watch category.

The IC-V86 is a reasonably decent radio, by ham standards, and because you already have an Icom radio, it may be the brand you want to stick with.

An important question for you OP, what kind of a budget do you have for a new radio?

Nothing beats the Yaesu VX-6R for being rugged. It is a 144, 220, 440 (and 6 meters if modified) transmitting radio with wide band receive am and FM. It's specs. are too numerous to list, you need to check out its Web site and its ratings on eham.com
