AURORA - One person was treated for smoke inhalation after a two-alarm apartment fire Monday evening.

The fire broke out around 5:45 p.m. at the Oak Ridge Apartments at 834 S. Chambers Rd.

Aurora Fire says the fire was very hot and that made it difficult for fire crews.

Authorities say the fire moved very fast after it started on the ground floor and climbed up the side of the building to the attic.

"All I saw was flames coming out of the bottom," said Danielle Hardy, a woman who lives nearby. "It was shooting straight up."

Up to six units were damaged by the blaze and firefighters say up to 20 people could be displaced. However, they are currently being housed in other empty units in the apartment complex.

The person suffering from smoke inhalation was treated and released.

Investigators plan to return to the scene of the fire Tuesday morning to try and figure out what caused it.

Body Found

AURORA - Firefighters searching a burned out apartment building found a dead body, officials said Tuesday.

The fire broke out around 5:45 p.m. at the Oak Ridge Apartments at 834 S. Chambers Rd. in Aurora.

Initially, firefighters couldn't get into the room where the body was found because of intense heat from the fire.

After the fire was declared out at 6:09 p.m., crews performed a secondary search and found the body. In order to preserve the scene, firefighters did not remove.

Investigators will return to the apartment Tuesday with a search warrant.

The Aurora Fire Department, Aurora Police Department and Colorado Bureau of Investigation are taking part in the investigation.

Up to six units were damaged by the blaze and firefighters say up to 20 people could be displaced. However, they are being housed in other empty units in the apartment complex.

Initial damage estimates have been set at $50,000.
