Hello Everyone,

I recently found out that one of the police departments in my area uses 39.440 mhz as a side tac channel off of the 800 mhz trunked radio system we have. I currently have both an 150/450/800 mhz antenex NMO Mount antenna and a Laird 806-896 mhz nmo mount antenna that I primarily used for monitoring the 150/450/800 frequencies. I am wondering if there is a 30-1300 mhz NMO mount antenna to be had out there? I have a Radioshack 25-1300 mhz antenna but it is just a magnet mount NON-NMO mount antenna that terminates to a BNC coupler. Any suggestions?

I can tell you that low band is really picky about antennas. You might find that using two antennas will get you the best results. Use the 150-450-860 for those bands, and have a second low band specific antenna for that band. The Larsen NMO antennas are available for that range and should give you good results.

I have used this approach before and can verify it's a valid, no-compromise method. I would also note that I've received Oklahoma Highway Patrol low-band transmissions on a quarter-wave VHF-Hi antenna feeding a Radio Shack Pro95 scanner. Antennas are one of the interesting and fun areas for experimentation and learning in the radio hobby.

I can assure you that there is NO SUCH THING as a 30-1300 Mhz NMO Mount Quality Antenna.

Close enough to a strong signal a piece wire will pick up just about anything and that
Super M is a POS antenna so save your $ and listen to mmkenna, he has the much
better approach.

Austin spectra is the only currently made NMO antenna that is designed for all the public service bands including VHF-lo. You must tune it to the low band freq since performance drops off rapidly from the sweet spot.

The older A/S MON series works a little better on VHF lo and is slightly wider band but it may give up some on 800. I've tested the Austin Spectra and A/S MON series side by side on 30-500MHz and prefer the A/S but I have no data comparing 800MHz.

Austin Spectra

Austin spectra is a pretty good antenna all around

I second that. Mine outperforms anything I have ever used in the past and I keep mine INSIDE the car (mag mounted on a metal pie dish) and I can stil pick up systems over 20 miles away. I havent tried it outside the car yet but I can only imagine how good it would be.
