UP Man sure has been deafening silent about these new scanners. Has he disappeared?

Likely busy with the release. But, he has been posting the past few days.

Seems to me he has posted all that needs to be said on these two.
Read the posted links and go from there.

I'm surprised he even provides the courtesy he does, giving some of the bashing he and Uniden gets here.
My 996P2 arrives tomorrow.

Whats he supposed to do? Sing a song and dance about them? I don't see any unanswered questions/issues about these models that haven't already been answered.

If the 996P2 does a better job of decoding P25 LSM than the 996XT, I might have as many as 60 of the XT's for sale which have failed us completely in the SF bay area listening to the various P25 trunking systems we have here. The 996XT could not discriminate between the control channel data and the noise floor created by cell sites and other baseband noise in the 700/800 mhz bands....then there is the "decoder chip", receiver selectivity issues, and other things. I could care less about close call, GPS scanning, search functions, etc. Just want a serious working scanner that my news crews can rely on that will scan the database I program into it.

You are going to have a tough time finding anything that will work in that RF soup if the 996XT doesn't. Uniden is known for having the best receiver as far as immunity from other RF signals. They aren't bullet-proof, but they are much better than anything else out there. (short of a commercial radio)
