396T Vs. 996T which is better?

I'm wanting to buy one of these scanners and I've always been partial to desk tops, but I understand that the 996 has a minor backlight glitch. I was hoping maybe someone out there may have both models and can give a performance evaluation one over the other. Thanks

I assume you mean the 396T? Basically make your determination on the need for a portable vs base unit, operationally they'll be pretty much the same.

The 996 is a better choice, IMO. I like the Multi-Site Trunking, Temporary Lockout, Close Call Do-Not-Disturb, Two color backlight, GPS functions, Startup Configuration, and Talkgroup and Frequency display (Mode 2) that the 396 doesn't have.

Don't be that guy, lol.

Get the handheld if you want to rock portable operation, unless you *need* the enhanced 996 ops.

My plan is to get the 396, then the 996 or the next-gen mobile at that time later on.

Gday well on the Question which is the better Scanner and keep in mind that the Antenna that you use will get the better signal and they are both Excellent Scanners and I got them both and I will not choose on over the other.

Good Luck Lino.
