I bought a uniden bc346xt last week and find that there are very few available police department frequencies that work .. I don't want to hear a volunteer fire dept in the sticks ..are there brands of scanners that pick up the modern signals ? .. and how can i get a refund on this light weight junk ..

I moved your post to it's own thread, please don't ask off topic questions in someone else's topic.

Much of the county is analog, which can be received just fine using the BC346XT (it is a state-of-the art analog trunking scanner...I challenge you to find a better one in production, today).

Leeds uses MotoTRBO on some channels, which cannot be monitored on any scanner.

The Sheriff and some other county / municipal agencies are on a mixed-mode trunked radio system. The BC346XT will track all of the channels marked as "A" (analog) just fine. For the digital (D) channels, you'll need to step up to a digital trunking scanner. The three models that are in current production are:
  • BCD396XT
  • BCD996XT
  • HomePatrol-1
