Some, but not all, trunk systems in this area are encrypted. Someone from your neck of the woods could tell you better about such trunks in your area. 73 Mike

I think its like this - correct me if I am wrong someone

225 - 380 Mhz Military UHF Aircraft - mostly AM mode 25 Khz steps
380 - 406 Mhz Military UHF Trunking - FM Narrow Band 12.5 Khz steps

Great, thanks all.

Ok, since we're here...

How would I find the .mil freqs in my area?

Not trying to be funny, but SEARCH.

1.) Put your radio into SEARCH mode for those bands.
2.) Expand out on those bands, not all MIL are there
try 137-144, 148-150.8, 162-174 and 406-420 as well.
3.) Where do you live, is there even a MIL Base or Presence? [Update your Profile !]
a.) If not, then you will likely only get the Planes when Airborne.

Spend some time Scanning and make a list and post it back.

That should be 380-400 trunked or conventional and not strictly FM. There are still a few AM aircraft freqs too.
There is no trunking or land mobile use from 400.0-406.1

Tried to program a Motorola system in the 380 mhz range, but error message says, 'out of range' or some such (on my 396T).

Will the XT accept frequencies in this range?

The 396T accepts these frequencies; I have several in mine, and they work fine. How are you programming them? Software, by hand...? 73 Mike

It's anything but obscure. The range from 225-400 is primarily military aircraft and there are some military land mobile users above 380, primarily trunked systems. Plus there are the new Intra Squad radios that have been introduced. The ISR's are actually reconfigured rugged FRS radios for use by the armed forces.

IIRC there are something like 80 or 90 MILAIR freq in the 380.0-399.9.
But don't quote me, some know it all will say I'm wrong!! ;-))

Make sure you program it as "Motorola"-"P-25". The 396 will accept the 380 MHz channels only if you are doing a P-25 system.
