To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:
Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.
If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.
To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.
The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.
For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Damn but I wish I had something more constructive to add. Unfortunately there just aren't any good answers, and all we have is that some are less bad than others. You want complete freedom and anarchy? CB is your solution. Want order and don't mind permits? Get a Tech license and do 10 meter ham. Pick your poison, at least you have a choice. Too bad there isn't a happy middle path here.

I would, since he's on sideband. Q signals have always been used on CB SSB. When I was on the band, 10 codes and handles on sideband was verboten and as far as I know still is.
Sad to hear the madness on CB has started to go sideband. There was a time when the true decent, courteous operators were on SSB.

That's a good option for you. Give it a try. It's not without it's problems but you'll have more "real estate" to retreat to, to stay away from the known "troubled" areas of the amateur available spectrum.
Personally, I don't mind the "anarchy" on 11 meters. It is what it is. I've found better things to do on 11 meters than to attempt to "slug it out" with the powerhouse stations on channel 38 lsb or channel 6 am.
Go for the ham ticket. There's a lot of good folk on the forum that will help you along your way.

I don' get on there to slug it out with them,i really try to avoid that .. But i must admit sometimes i get sucked in ..
In the mornings here in Iowa on a good day point the beam North East and get some really good contacts all over Europe ..That's what i enjoy..
Have been listening to some 10 meters, don't know if i could get in to . Seems you must say your call and the other persons call every time you start talking again .I have to write down the last 3 numbers of an 11 meter call now so i can have it when i end ..Short term, i guess ..

I don't think the call letters on the ham bands have to be repeated as often as you think. Perhaps someone with a current ham license can clarify the requirements for us.

Unless it's changed recently, Id on the beginng and end of a contact and at 10 minute intervals is the FCC rule. No big deal for anyone. Just sounds overly repetive if you have folks making fast contacts for contests and some people just have a habit of doing a monolog and using call signs on the beginning and end of each return. Sort of becomes an automatic thing and you'll quickly realize you're doing the same. Don't sweat it.
