I’m getting what I have always heard referred to as “intermod”, an interference from something that is locking up my Uniden 396T. I’m using it around my computer so I suspect that may be the problem. I have a wireless keyboard, a Netgear router, and a Roadrunner Motorola modem, all in the same area. The frequencies involved are all VHF-Hi. No problems on 800mhz. I’m using the standard antenna that came with the radio. Any ideas from anyone on how I can continue to use my radio where I am, near the computer.
Thanks.

Your suspicions are correct. All that wireless stuff you have is rich in RF, and likely sending out harmonics all over the place. They're not really noted for spectral purity (welcome to the world of consumer RF). No doubt the poor 396 is overloaded with receiving one or more of those units.

An external antenna with good shielded coax will help, as will choking off any cables that can act as antennas for the RF (I think RS still sells kits for this - I know MFJ does...). I suspect though that you will not be able to get rid of it all - you will probably still have some RF problems there. 73s Mike

The closest I get to this is when I am in my car the GSM phone will cause the radio to stop scanning and I hrea little sort of data buzzes. Yurn off the phone and it gors away. Another source if this can be nextel phones.
