396 AND MOTO TYPE II (CONTROL CHANNEL ONLY)

If I were to program a Motorola Type II system, is it true that I only need to enter in the control channel frequencies and the scanner will do the rest? If a system uses two or three control channels and alternate day-to-day, would I still just program the control channels used for that system and ignore the rest of the frequencies?

Also, I was reading through the manual and thought I would try out the ID SEARCH AND STORE on one of the trunking systems I programmed. I let it run for a couple of minutes and it picked up three ID's.

Will this scanner be able to pick up ID's that have not been stored in memory or will it only broadcast them if they have been programmed.

1. You only need to enter the Control Channels. You should add the "Alternate Control channels" as well. No need to enter the Voice Channels.

2. If you set the scanne for ID search it will show all Talk Group ID's. If you set the scanner for ID scan it will only show Talk Groups in memory that are unlocked.

Yes, it is CC Only, if you set it in system setup. This is of course only for Moto systems.

In ID Scan mode, it only stops on TG's that have been programmed and not locked out. In ID Search mode it displays all TG's not locked out, and will display the Alpha Tag for those that you have programmed.

What happens if you do enter Voice frequencies? Other than consuming memory unecessarily, does it affect the performance of the scanner?

On the other hand, if you're not using CC only mode, you would need to enter the Voice channels AND CC's/AltCC's, correct?

Nothing, as they are not used in CC Only mode. It should not affect the performance. Remember it locks on the first CC it finds and stays there until a channel grant is issued.

One advantage I have found with using CC only is that if the system adds a new voice channel, you won't miss traffic on it. I've noticed this more on a couple of 900Mhz SMR systems that I listen to, but it does happen on 800 PS systems as well.
