How can i go about installing the 396 inside my car? Can I just take the power supply and connect the correct ends to the car batt? or do i need some Ac/dc converter? (i'd rather not have an ac/dc converter in pluged in ym cig lighter.

So uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
I can take a DC to AC converter unit and strip the wires to the ciggerette lighter side, conect it straight to the battery and plug the AC converter into the DC to AC converter without installing an inline fuse on the component side?(where the scanner will be pluged in) The DC to AC converter has its own fuse on itself. So what is the bcd396t handeld Fused at any one know? I believe i am right here?

Don't do that - get the radio shack 12v cigarette lighter adapter that has adjustable voltages on it, and set it to 6v center positive. You'll likely fry the 396 otherwise.

As for mounting, here's a tip: the 396 slides perfectly into any CB radio microphone clip :)

hmm
So whats the diff between the adjustable voltage converter from ratshack and the unit i have that just has a on off switch? Will setting the voltage to 6 then connecting it straight to the battery be ok? I want to make it a behind dash thing, I dont want to have to see it plus i'll likely leave it there forevor.

So, let me get this straight..

You're wanting to take a 396.. and stuff it in your dash.. Never to be seen again?

Heat might be an issue.. Not sure how warm the INSIDE of your dash gets of a summer, but on a hot day, a black leather dash can flat out burn yo @$$!

I wouldn't reccomend throwing a scanner up in the dash of my car.

Tell you what.. I'll trade you that 396 for a mobile scanner that will work. ;)

How bout a 2055?

I say mount a CB mic clip on your dash and do it that way. Don't torture your scanner.
