Realizing that there may be a new radio in development or perhaps future firmware upgrades for the 396, I wanted to suggest the following enhancements...
#1. Indicate control channel mode during searches
I think it is possible to use part of one of the two the mini status lines to indicate a control channel only search. I had a situation where I had configured a range (935-939.9875) as CC-only. During the 'heat of the moment', I changed the range to 900-928 to try and pick up some ISM traffic.
Unfortunately, I didn't pick up anything. If there was an indicator on one of the status lines, it would remind me to change the mode. My current 'workaround' is to add 'CC to the end of the search range.
#2. Indicate SEARCH/SCAN mode while scanning a TRS
The current firmware indicates SEARCH/SCAN mode in the main display line where the TGID/Alpha tag is displayed. If you are monitoring a busy system, there might not be enough dead time between transmissions to actually see what mode you're in.
I would like to see part of the status indicators used to indicate SEARCH/SCAN mode, so it would be visible independent of activity on the system.
#3. Align function of SCAN button
On a conventional system, pressing SCAN will resume scanning if the radio is HOLDing a channel. If the radio is scanning, nothing happens. On a TRS, SCAN will resume scanning if the radio is HOLDing on a channel. If the radio is scanning, the SEARCH/SCAN mode is changed.
I would like to see a change where the SCAN button will _always_ resume scanning and do nothing if the radio is scanning. Perhaps a double press on a TRS will change modes?
Comments?
