I get much better reception here on Starcom with the digital set to "FM" as stated by the Uniden rep on these boards....Also here on the Starcom IL System "Auto 8" works best on the digital setting...700/800 digital needs a very good signal to be processed and seeing at least 3-4 signal bars and using the RS 800 rubber duck is a must.....Also, using outdoor antennas need very short run low loss coax such as RG6u/RG11....My opinion only....
Thanks. I've been waiting for your response. While my question was directed at conventional frequencies, I'm also interested in the same result for trunked systems.
I monitor 2 sites (as different systems in my 396) of the county TRS which are MOT type II Smart Zone. Just checked the modulation setting on both and interestingly, one is set to auto; the other, FM. I did not manually set either one. Come to think of it, the one (FM) does seem to 'come in' better.
As far as the conventional frequencies, they are Federal and the transmissions tend to be short, making tweaking difficult. They do, however, indicate their modulation mode.
The MOTs on the otherhand, do not. Is it a given that all MOTs are using FM modulation? Did not see any reference in the database.
