where do you get the ESN number i am in settings and can only get the serial number and now i need the esn check some. I have never seen a harder download for any scanner !!!!

If you had firmware 1.13.17 or earlier, you won't have it. You need to apply the ESN loader fix first, then you would get the firmware and updater. It is a little confusing but once you've gone through it once, it's actually pretty easy.

You would first need to register your 396 and 996 on the Uniden website.

I have 103.11 in the 396 t i have owned for a year and yes i am stupid . I have never seen a download so crazy and don't know what i am doing. I will pay anybody 30 .00 an hour cash to come to me and figure this stupid thing out or i am going to sell the 996 T i just got in the mail yesterday as i have 6 scanners and most of them are pro 96 or 2096 and no problem with radio shack

John, read this sticky 'BCD396T and BCD996T Updates are Here' in this forum - it will be either the first or last message (depending on how you set up your defaults for this site) where UPMan talks about the various steps you need to execute.
