Any suggestions for me, post firmware version 3 upgrade? Auto just isn't cutting it.
Thanks

Yeah Ive seen many say level 8 or even 11 works great for low error rates.
Just changed mine, see how it does. A few I have picked up the error rates are zero at 8 as posted by a few others in these forums or on usenet newsgroups.

Adjusting the P25 Level (Motorola and Conventional systems [(U)BCD396T only]) <-- (wrong it works on the N.A. one as well) This setting determines some system-specific parameters for digital channels. In most cases, setting this to Auto provides the best performance. However, you can also manually set the digital decode threshold. This setting affects all channels in the current system.
Scroll to 'Adjust p25 Level' and press E/yes.
Scroll to one of three settings and press E/yes to save and exit.
Auto- the scanner automatically adjusts the digital decode threshold to match the transmission you are hearing when it receives a strong signal and has a high decode rate.
Manual- lets you manually adjust the digital decode threshold.
Default- sets the digital decode threshold to the default value. This is handy if you have manually adjusted the value to a setting that prevents proper decoding.

they might not have the money for that so that might not be an option. I did sell my 396 on ebay for $440 and got a 500 for $450 plus shipping.
The 396 has the nice feature of muting encrypted talk that the GRE lacks big time.

I've had no problems with Auto on MPSCS... Based on your location, well -- you don't list a location so no idea what tower you're receiving ;)

Central Windsor across the creek from Detroit. "Supposedly" the MPSCS coverage is as far as Leamington?

You're on CQPSK then which is 1) different that the rest of MPSCS and 2) pretty tough to get that side of the border.
