ok, I've programmed Henrico in and it is a motorola apco 25 system. All I get is choppy quick in and out (no more than a second each)transmisiions from all talk groups on this system. I live a stones throw from Henrico. Anybody got any ideas that has a 396 yet?

nope, Mot is what I saw. I am getting parts of the trans. that is legible but it cuts off.

Can you post a link to the system in question on this website?

If it's this one:

http://www.radioreference.com/modules.php?name=TRSDB&sid=556

Then it looks like it needs to be setup as 800 Standard and NOT as P25.

If it's setup correctly and you're still having the problem, then welcome to the club (there's around 3 of us) having similar problems.

That's the one! I'll try to set it up as standard and see what happens. Also if I just let it sit on a frequency in the trunked system, I get the entire dispatched message. If I sit it on a certain TG it cuts on & off and tells me it is looking for the control channel. I just left a friend house in Henrico Co. and it did the same thing so it is not a distance or antenna problem.

Program the Red and Blue labeled control channel freqs from the RR database in the MOT 800 standard system. Be sure to set CC-Only in the system options, ignore status bit. Be sure you have the default 2-sec set for both Sys Hold Time and Sys Delay Time.

This was information provided from username:WHSBUSS in SE Pa.

This will fix the programming problem for Rich, Ches, Henrico system.

Also anyone getting this radio you will need to optimize the p25 system for Rich, Ches, Henrico system. It's on page 99. When you first program the R, C and H systems you will notice it is a little jagged but optimizing it definitely clears it up. Once you do this you will be able to hear the crickets chirping in the background as I just did. Also unlike my 296 I programmed this with just the CC freqs. only.

Dynamite, I just received my 396 yesterday and only got to play with it for about an hour last night. I live in the Fredericksburg area. I have only owned RS scanners and currently have a Pro-96. I have never owned a Uniden so the programing functions are new to me. In fact, everything about the Uniden is new to me. Help me out! First, what VA freqs are pre-programed in the system? I have been reading your posts about programing Richmond so I will work on that over the weekend. I have also been reading all the comments on the 396 thread forum. Also I will read the manual in detail to see if I can figure things out more regarding this scanner. But I will probably need the assistance of someone close by in Virginia.

Believe me, having the software made programming the scanner a lot easier. Especially if you want to enter text. Took a few minutes to figure things out, but I finally got it working. The help isn't real clear, but with some patience, it does get you where you need to be.

Make sure you back up the scanner before you start. If you travel, you may want to use one of the preset systems later.
