396 Programming Software

I ordered my 396 from Scanner Master last week and it arrived on July6. There was no programming software, so I called Uniden to ask if it was missing.

They said it is still being developed and tested. They hope to have it out in the next week or ten days. It will be free and on their web site.

WTF?

Just got mine. I can't even get the four frequencies for Hopewell to work right. http://www.radioreference.com/modules.php?name=TRSDB&sid=654 . This scanner was never intended for newbies. That's for sure! Alas, this unit will sit idle until software is released. And trying the 246 software was over my head. How about something simple like "Click here to put Hopewell in your scanner!". Yeah, I know, RTFM! LOL Looking at the info on that page and comparing it to the manual is evidently too much for my mind for now.

I'm getting coffee and aspirin!

396 software

Since Uniden pre programmed a lot of frequencies into their radio's and I assumed these were not done manually, they should have provided with these new radios a software packege for programming. You spend $500 plus dollars and have to manually program their radio. I wonder what software Uniden used to pre program their 396 radios.

They probably used the beta software to pre-program the units.

UPMan promised as soon as the help files were completed and testing was preformed, the software would be available (for free). There would most likely be a new firmware release available at the same time.

Would I like to have had the software when I got my radio?? YOU BET!
But the radio shipped almost 2 months ahead of schedule.... so now I get to learn more of the manual operations instead of relying solely on software. Just program the freqs and ID for now and enjoy the radio.

If its too difficult for some to program, send me a PM and I will try to help you.

OK, I used the RR software to generate a UASD , then renamed the extension to txt and printed it.http://www.radioreference.com/modules.php?name=TRSDB&sid=654 . I used that info to program it.

I'm purty darn close now, I think. It's scanning and receiving. BUT, when it picks up a conversation it is cutting in and out so fast you can't understand. If I press the hold button, I hear then entire conversation fine. It's also not showing alpha tags when it stops, I assume that's because I'm picking up on a TG\Channel that isn't programmed in?

I'm assuming it should hold the freq until the conversation over.

They probably programmed it the same time they wrote the firmware.

Again, I'll point out that people got this scanner 2 months EARLY. It should not be surprising that the programming SW is not out yet.

The alternative is that you don't get your scanner until they release the software. That was YOUR choice. Or, would you have preferred that they hold the units in the warehouse until it's done? Remember the boat discussion?

Had the same problem with my scanner. Program it for Mot 800 Standard.
instead of P-25. That system is not a true Apco-25.

Software is out

I found the programming software on the Uniden site today. I downloaded it and found I had to get a registration key. It was supposed to be sent to me via e-mail, but it never came. I called Uniden product support and they gave me a key to use.

Really nice software.
