396 Updates

Has anyone in the Phoenix valley doing the updates as they are released for the 396?

If so, what are your results?

Any major improvements when it comes to either tracking or receiving ?

Do you feel they have made this a better radio?

I am still using version 1.11.03 because it works well for me.

I'm curous as well.

Im still using 1.13.17. Works well for me. Everything comes in perfect with the exception of the 'motorboating/machine gunning' sound at the beginning of transmissions on MSCO.

I dont plan to update at this point. Seems there are some 'issues' with it, as with the last update.

I have the most updated version (cant remember the number, and I am not near the scanner), and I have noticed very little improvement, if any.. since a lot of the updates were specifically for P25 system, I figured it would help quite a bit..but that was a disappointment.

I've never been able to get Phoenix to come in perfectly. In certain areas (central Phoenix area) they come in great, but once I go past Buckeye it starts getting bad again.

I downloaded firmware version 3 as soon as it was released a few days ago, but didn't observe any noticeable improvement on the PRWN. I don't monitor the PRWN very often, but when I do, I use the radios I don't have any issues with, the PSR-500 or 600.

I was lucky enough to have come across the following thread today:

Checked and found my setting to also be at 1. After setting to 3 as advised, I'm very happy to report a HUGE improvement in reception of the PRWN. I'm currently mobile and have yet to have any reception problems. Being able to monitor PRWN, MOBILE, with the RS 800 Mhz duck, with NO problems whatsoever, is a pretty good indicator of the improvements in the latest upgrade, IMHO. I was ready to sell this unit until I came across this thread. Evidently many units are stuck on the 1 setting after the upgrade when it should be on 3. Never thought PRWN would sound this well on the 396. WOW.

I so glad to hear somone is having good luck with the PRWN. I upgraded to v3, and still having trouble. I've experimented with the different adjustments, but don't see much improvement.

Can you tell us what setting you have such as the P25 adjust level, the P25 wait time and if you have your P25 set to auto or manual. If manual, what level do you have it set to.

I'd like to try your settings and see if it will improve my P25 decoding. I have a good strong signal where I'm at, just can't seem to get a good decoding.

Per the thread, many users are reporting a P25 Adjust Mode setting of 1 after performing the upgrade. If yours is also 1, . . change it to 3. I didn't even have to mess with the other adjustments. They are currently set to defaults of zero.

What side of the valley are you located? And can you comment on any improvements you have noticed either analog or digital and what sytems?

I live in Glendale. The improvement with this upgrade AND the P25 Adjust Mode setting of 3, is the ability to monitor the PRWN. I've never had any problems monitoring any other digital system. No noticeable improvements on analog. I have noticed my GRE's have better ears on VHF compared to the Unidens.

to the questins elephantman is asking. I set it to 3, auto, I don't seem to be receiving anything now that I upgraded. I don't get the whole band plan thing for prwn. do we have to program in the frequencies directly in the band plan. can someone also explain that? thxs.

Where can I get update 3 for my 396t? I have version 2, I go to my uniden and log on but they only show version 1 where is everyone getting it?
