396T and SMA mobile mount

Is the SMA on the 396T an SMA male or female? I have been looking at the waltel NMO magnetic mount and they can be customized to whichever connecter you want. For the 396T would I need an SMA MALE OR FEMALE connector to screw on the radio?

Radio has a male so the ant. connector needs to be a female. I would just go with a bnc and use the adapter if you are going to take it in and out, much easier and quicker then screwing the sma on and off.

WRONG! The connector on the BCD396T is a FEMALE SMA.

An SMA MALE is what wou want to connect to the '396, whether it's an antenna or coax connector. The radio is female.
