396T Emergency Alert Feature

How does the emergency alert feature work on the 396T? I want to assign an alert to a frequency but not sure how. The users manual does not offer much help...

Set the freq, enter the tones, then when you want to listen go to the menu and select tone standy.

I've had the 396 since July and have yet to hear the emergency alert. If my understanding is correct, the tone will go off when someone presses the emergency button on their radio.
Guess it just hasn't happened yet.

Not exactly... He may be referring to the emergency alert function when monitoring a motorola trunked system. Could you be more specific about what exactly your trying to do, I am sure that there are quite a few people who could help.

On page 86 of the manual there are instructions on how to set an alert for any channel (frequency).

But not an emergency alert.
