While holding down "Func" and briefly pressing the scroll control twice, two lines of information pop up where the system & group numbers usually are. What are these, what do they mean, & what do they do?

Also while in this mode, turning the scroll wheel moves the default "8 Auto" from "0 Auto" to "20 Auto". The first T number goes down by 0.02 and the last T number goes up by 0.02 each time you bump the scroll knob up (eg from 8 Auto to 9 Auto).

The display looks like this:
ERR:--- 8 Auto
T 1.38 1.60 1.82

BTW, this is on a Motorola 800MHz Type II Simulcast.

Yeah. And I didn't have a problem with the manual, and it clearly shows how to change the decode thresholds... sheesh.

I just noticed this thread. I have to say, I do read the manuals but Uniden's are historicly poor. The BC396T manual is no different.

How in the heck can they not include an index?

Agreed, I read about hitting the volume knob twice on pg16 where it talks about Display Mode, and it only has two little phrases about it, no details & no page references. I looked around for what ERR means in the display & couldn't find anything listed.

An index would be extremely helpful & save us a lot of time!

Try page 99 "Optimizing P25 Performance" it's used to set the decode thresold for P25 digital systems. If you're not monitoring a P25 digital system it does nothing.

I agree the manual is poor but some and I'm not saying anyony here just don't bother looking at all.

Yes, The Manual DOES SUCK, I Keep A Slip Of Paper In The Front Of It With The Page Numbers Etc Written Down Of What I Use Most. My Own Little Index. For Such A Complicated Radio To Have No Printed Index In The Manual Is Pathetic & CHEEP!

I Suppose They Had To Cut Corners Somewhere, Damn Good Radio Though

Agreed, in the interim, why not download a .pdf copy and search it? Ctrl-Shift-F in Acrobat makes a pretty darn good index. :)

I'm with you on that, b52. I keep a downloaded copy of the manual's pdf file for all my scanners.
