You might want to think about keeping a simple clear baggie on hand to put your scanner in if you even think it might get wet for ANY reason. Not a sandwich bag mind you, but rather the slightly larger clear bags they sell in any grocery store, Walmart, etc. Having happened TWICE now, it would be a real shame to have a $400-$450 scanner ruined because it got *rained* on or left in a pocket outside, or whatever happened to it. Ultimately it's your scanner so you can do with it what you want, but it sounds like carrying a clear baggie or even buying one of those seal-up portable radio bags would likely be in your best interest or you'll be paying for a repair bill soon.
Being that it's already occurred twice now I wouldn't be surprised if you don't encounter more problems in the future, possibly due to corrosion or other related issues. And the more it happens, the greater the chance of having more serious issues in the near future
