I gotta admit that it would be better for me to lock the keys on this scanner and just let it scan than do anything else. I'm frustrated. I had an issue a few months ago with locking out frequencies and I consulted a number of resources (including here) and still nothing. Then one day I tried something and voila, I could hear the calls again. Moving on to my problem this time around...
The other night I had a power outage due to a car hitting power lines closeby and I wanted to hear the calls. Well, I was trying to turn on the backlight a few times and by mistake, I hit the lockout key. I consulted the manual and did the Edit Sys Option and then I Clr All L/O Ids...I saw something in the manual that mentions the word "deletion." My question now is did I delete any frequencies by doing this or did I simply just delete them from the lockout position? Thanks

Oh, don't you just hate that. I got my 396 over the summer and I kept messing with the buttons and screwing everything up. Then I got smart and uploaded the scanner files to my computer so I could easily reload and fix the damage. I highly doubt that you deleted anything, just locked them out. I remember locking out some quick keys that did not clear when I cleared out the lockouts. My guess is you did the same thing. Go check all your quick keys to make sure they are turned on. But hopefully someone smarter will come along soon with better info.

To unlock all frequencies press hold to pause scanning. Then press lockout key until all unlock appears on the screen then press scan. You should be able to scan all frequencies.

Didn't your mother ever tell you the 3 B's of scanners - backup, backup and backup? :.>> If you use one of the popular programs to download your contents when you're satisfied with the way you have it, if you really FUBAR something, it's a snap to restore it.

Hey guys, thanks for the help and I did buy the cd-rom program from scannermaster to be able to program the scanner myself. They programmed it for me initially. Maybe this is for the best because I have yet to actually use the software to program but I'd still like to know if the steps I took to unlock those frequencies actually erased them or just removed them from the lockout area.

I'm going to bump this...does anyone know if I deleted the frequencies or just unlocked them?

The scanner prompts you to confirm deletion.
To confirm and delete all locked-out frequencies, press
the scroll control. Otherwise, to cancel, press .

Frequencies that are locked out for search modes are added to a lockout list. When you unlock all the search mode frequencies, you are deleting that list. These have nothing to do with the frequencies stored in user-programmed systems. Deleting these will result in you hearing them (as long as they are in the search lockout list you will not hear them).

UPMan...thanks so much for your help...so let me just confirm with you...I did not delete them in the sense that they are no longer on my scanner at all but rather I deleted them from my locked out list...I guess the more appropraite word for what I did was "removed" not "deleted" The word "deleted" sounds to me like gone for good.

Your description is accurate (at least, as long as I understood the original situation correctly...but there is no easy way to delete programmed stuff so you should be good).
