396T scanning problem

A friend of mine has a problem with his scanner. He wanted to just listen to the weather and hit the "wx" button on the scanner. Instead what happened was that the "public safety" bank started scanning as well as the two other banks that he has programmed into the scanner.

Here is what will happen, the scanner will scan the local 800 Mhz system, "Public Safety" and then a conventional bank. He has tried hitting the "wx" button again, and that didn't fix it. He also turned the scanner off and then on again. Again that didn't fix it. It sounds like he turned a bank on that he doesn't want on. He says that the scanner is scanning the same Public Safety bank as the one that is preprogrammed in when you get it.

What happened? Any suggestions? Ideas? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try this: While scanning press Hold. Hold down the Func button while turning the knob. When you get to the one that says Public Safety Hit L/O. that should solve the problem. I'm not sure what caused it, but it sounds like a service search system got unlocked somehow.

It may sound like someone at the shop screwed up or someone had it before and took it back. If he still has the manual try to reset the scanner make sure your buddy backs up the radio if not he loses everything in it. It should go back to factory set.

What your buddy needed to do was press hold, then press the func button, then press the WX button to put it in weather mode. All he did by pressing the 2 is he opened up that system to scan.
