I've observed some unusual behaviour with some EDACS SCAT systems here.
One system was programmed as a 3-channel site (as that is what its licenced to use, but the site is actually operating as a SCAT) and when HOLD'ing on the control channel, the EDACS site ID is not shown, until there is a voice transmission.

However, other SCAT sites (and programmed as such in the 396T) don't display the EDACS site ID at all, even after several voice transmissions.

Is this just a quirk of the 396T?
Thanks,
Jason

I don't believe it's a "quirk". I think the SCAT mode is designed to mute the control channel audio only, not display talkgroups or system site IDs. If the system actually has three frequencies you may want to program it as a regular EDACS system and verify no other activity is on the other two frequencies or monitor the control channel with UniTrunker.

None of my scanners are as good at "tracking" SCAT systems as ETrunker. There would probably be lots of complaints about it in the various scanner model threads if they were more commonly used for public safety.
