I have been using Freescan on my 396T for years without problems. Today, I tried two different computers to connect to Freescan to update talkgroups. I'm using the original serial connector. The scanner scans the entire time and never recognizes it's connected to a computer. I've tried auto detection on the correct com port without success. Any thoughts or suggestions please?

Newer PCs don't have serial ports. If the jack you connected to has 3 rows of pins, that's not a serial port...

The BCD396T has one flaw. The IC/remote jack is only held in place by the soldered connection. Any movement or stress on the jack causes the connection to break. Mine quit working as well and I had to send it to Uniden to be serviced.
