so I'm looking for some info on what others use for a mobile antenna. mostly going to be used for 150-170 mhz..I have the radio shack Center-Loaded Telescoping Whip Antenna - Radioshack for wide band, not sure which one i want for "public safety" band

I picked up a Diamond RH77CA several months ago. Fantastic antenna.

The RS should work fairly well.

If you want something better, I would recommend a Larsen dual band antenna which will work great on both VHF and UHF. Ham or commercial won't matter since they are adjacent bands.

You could also just go with a 18" quarter wave for VHF. That's what is on most VHF radios.
