Hi,

Mr. Paul (Upman)

I just did an upload on the 396xt it stalled, and now I have the display that say's Copyright 2009 Uniden America,

I can't shut it off, I took the battery off and when it starts, it does the samething,

Is there a way to have it reboot, or it has to be send for repair.

Regards,

Try this:

Start with the scanner off and then while pressing [2], [9], and [HOLD] at the same time, turn power on (this procedure will WIPE OUT all current programming). If unit powers up normally; upload your programming again (make sure AC adapter is plugged in while programming).

How can he do the upload again if he can't get the scanner to load on "power up"?

The scanner never loads when you do a firmware update, so I'm not sure what you are referring to. You don't "power up" the scanner, you follow the instructions with LO/6.

Thanks (2) (9) (Hold) Power On worked fine.

Thanks

My understanding was that when he tried turning the scanner "off" and then "on" again; it would lock up on the "Splash Screen"; i.e. "Copyright 2009 Uniden America". This would indicate that the CPU did not initialize and thus, he would be unable to get the scanner to the point where it would respond to any commands. The reset would re-initialize ("jump start") the CPU and thus restore it to it's original state; albeit at the cost of wiping the memory clean... a small price to pay to get it to fully start up at power up. Beats sending it back to the factory.

He wasn't doing a firmware update. He was uploading programming to the radio when the upload failed and locked up the CPU.

Gotcha, I didn't have that additional tidbit of info...

I think he was basing the comment about it not being firmware on the fact that Uniden hasn't released any yet :)

Well... this too would be quite obvious. In reality, however, my response was based on him stating, "I just did an upload on the 396xt" and said nothing about attempting a firmware update. The fact that there is no such update for a product released a couple of weeks ago was a pretty good clue as to what he meant, though.
