I know some of you(as well as myself) have been complaining about the reaction time of the scanner "decoding" traffic.

Last light, I played with the "super advanced settings" (hold the "hold" button while powering up the radio, it will cycle through all the colors, then go into menu, settings, it will be "P25 adjust level".

My conclusion has been that a setting of EXACTLY 142 creates the best reaction time. As well as a consistent decode error rate of zero.

If you find anything wrong with what I've said or have any suggestion or anything to add, by all means, I'm open to suggestions.

Let me know if this helps!

Trying this on 996xt

Question... was your "P25 LP Filter" on or off?

Off. P25 filter is only to eliminate the 4khz tone on some p25 systems, which I've never experienced on the co system.

Also, I was noticing it would not pick up any traffic every so often on 143, I Noe have it on 155. No problems so far. But it would be nice if we could collectively come up with a proper setting for the DTRS.

dracer777 thank you for this info I use to cringe when I tried to listen to P25 systems on my 396xt. I followed your steps and found that mine was set to 50, when I entered 155 and scanned Jeffco I started picking up alot more traffic. Thanks again for this tip it sounds great.

You're welcome. And keep updated on this thread, as I will be trying to optimize these settings the best I can.

Don't get too carried away. This sort of adjustment is different with each radio.

What's interesting to me is the other P25 scanners such as the PSR-500, 600; Pro-96, 2096, 106, 197, even the cousin 996t will scan and track the DTRS great right out of the box these adjustments should not really be needed.

Sadly yes... My 106 was great. And the 396xt seems like it could do great as well, with hours of experimenting.

I've had a 396T and 2 XTs.... never messed with the P25 on any of them. I do tend to defer to the factory adjustments on most electronics, since I don't usually have access to a 'scope to bring it back if my circuit-tweaking makes it worse.
