396XT scanning issue

Every once and a while I will be listening to the scanner (id scan) on a local mot p25 system and when it should be stopping on a TGRP and letting audio be herd it alternates between the TGRP and ID scan very rapidly and no audio is herd.

has anyone else had this problem?

The system it the Minnesota ARMER.

This post describes the same symptoms. It may be related to the Band Plan.

This is a symptom of not having the correct band plan set for the system. When the scanner sees a channel grant, it calculates the voice frequency to go to using the band plan. If the band plan is incorrect, it does not go to the correct frequency..typically it goes to frequency on which there is no carrier, so the scanner immediatly returns to the control channel.

how do i know what to set it to?

If it is a system that has not rebanded, likely correct setting is 800 Standard. If it has rebanded, then the likely correct setting is the standard rebanding table (http://info.uniden.com/twiki/pub/publish/EditBandPlan.html#Rebanded_Motorola_Systems).
