Just bought a used 396XT.(Already own a 396T) When manually entering a new P25 system after entering the name, I can't pull up the option that says "Set frequencies" What am I doing incorrectly? Also, it asks me to choose between Standard Trunk and One-Freq Trunk. Is One-Freq Trunk a way of just entering the control frequency and letting the scanner find the other frequencies on its own ? Thanx for the answers to these 2 questions.

I suggest "Standard Trunk".

To Edit the System Name press Menu. At 'Program System' press E/yes.
At 'Select System' scroll to the system you want to name and press E/yes.
At 'Edit Name' press E/yes. See Entering Text.

To enter a letter, turn the scroll control until the character you want appears.
(character order clock-wise is upper-case, lower-case, numbers, then special characters).
To enter a decimal point, press (.)no.
To move the cursor to the right, press 6>.
To move the cursor to the left, press <4.
To clear a character or enter a space, press (.)no.
To clear all characters, press (.)no twice.
Press E/yes when finished to exit.
Press the 'Back' button in your browser to return to programming.

Check in the Easier to Read Manual.

My question was not how to enter the system name (which I did successfully)--it was how to set the frequencies when the scanner did NOT give me that option ("Set frequencies") after entering the system name. I have done this successfully with my 396T, but can't seem to get to the Set Frequencies part.

That's weird.

You must be overlooking something.

That's how it works on my 396xt. Just like it says in the manual.

The 396T is an older and a single site scanner so the trunking frequencies entered are a little different. On the BCD396XT there is no "Set frequencies". You want to create a new site then you can add frequencies to the site.

I program my 396XT with FreeSCAN you may want to try that, if not Go to Program system>Select system>Edit Site>Select Site>Set Frequencies. Initial programming should be set as P25 Standard system.
