Just wondering if bcd396xt shares its receiver section with other models. The reason I was wondering is I recently bought this scanner and really like the way it’s working. And was wondering if the hp models were similar.

The receiver would be the same as in the P2 series.

Definitely not. The P2 uses a different VOCODER chip. also the BCD325P2 is a different form factor than the BCD396XT. Again, similar, but different.

Differences in form factor require a different board layout. A 396XT board will not fit in a 325 case. Also the 325 has different hardware to decode P25 Phase II.

Similar, but not exact.

I used the word "also" to convey different thoughts. It was not all one criteria.

I understood the OP’s question to be along the same line as the one asked in that other thread:

I am very happy with the receiver on the 996. Very sensitive, no RFI that I ever see. It just plain receives very well.
How good are the receivers on the XT and P2? As good? Better?

To which UPMan replied:

T/XT/P2 use virtually identical receiver designs.

(bold emphasis mine)

Similar, but not exact.

Again, bold emphasis mine.

Meaning we both said virtually the same thing. :D
(or what we said was similar, but not exact - take your pick of phrases)
