4 ohm 40 watt Kenwood KES-5 on TRX-2?

Would this 3lb monster speaker suck the soul out of a TRX-2 if the volume knob was cranked up?

No, but likely the scanner won't be able to drive it very well. The KES-5 is a pretty robust speaker, so it'll work, just won't be very loud.
