OK, so I'm bored visiting family at Metro hospital. Decide to play with the signal stalker on the 106. Captured 407.000/NAC 201, Fed building. Looking right at it:) Next stop on scanner is 408.000/NAC 293 encrypted. Nothing on RR for the county. Just wondered what agency uses it. Strong signal at the family home.
TIA,
Larry

Many years ago (1985) 408.000 MHz was used by the US EPA in Ohio out of the Cincinnati Field Office. If I recall correctly, it was a mobile use frequency. I also recall Postal Inspectors on this frequency in the Akron/Cleveland area circa 1987-1990.

The input should be 9.0MHz up. If the clear transmissions make you believe it's used just in one area or place, you can probably ID the user by checking out a few federal facilities & looking at signal strength on the input.

That's how some of us O.G. radio-geeks ID'ed some P-25 secure Department of Veteran's Affairs Medical Center Police Dept repeaters in the SF Bay area. Speaking of which, the Cleveland area VAMC is the first place I'd go to & monitor 417.0 from.
