4125 Coast Guard activity

Lots of activity on 4125 USB from Commsta Kodiak and FV Alaskan Leader. Sounds like this vessel is DIW (possibly due to a fire in the engine room) located in the Bering Sea north of Dutch Harbor. Another fishing boat, the Frontier Explorer is on the way to assist. Comms still on going as of 0700.

this vessal is not part of the deadliest catch show howeve it is run by the company that does have a vessal in the show.

Last I heard the vessel made contact with USCGC Sherman and was in VHF range. By then conditions started to fade and I could no longer hear anything else.

I was monitoring the frequency again last night and caught an urgent marine broadcast regarding the fishing vessel Blue Galaxy that was reportedly taking on water at position 59-18.9N 176-16.5W, 230nm NW of St Paul Island. About an hour afterwards Kodiak came up and said the vessel was no longer in need of assistance, so I guess they were lucky this time around.

This freq continues to be productive.

Logged both the Horizon Kodiak and Horizon Anchorage cargo ships asking for radio checks.

Then early this morning the F/V Rebecca Irene had some engine troubles and was in comms w/ Kodiak on 4125. Had a pretty good copy on it (both sides heard) until local daylight.

I was also reading the USCG press release site and noticed they did a medevac from the F/V Wizard yesterday afternoon. Wonder who it was?

Alaska is facing a life threatening winter storm with near hurricane force winds, more than a foot of snow and severe coastal flooding, the National Weather Service says.

"This is an extremely dangerous and life-threatening storm which will be one of the worst on record over the Bering Sea and the west coast," NWS forecasters said in a bulletin Monday afternoon.

The storm was about 600 miles southwest of Shemya in the far western Aleutian Islands on Monday afternoon and was expected to move over the Bering Sea toward Alaska's west coast on Tuesday.

Winds near hurricane force of 74 mph were expected to generate seas as high as 25 feet in the northern Bering Sea, forecasters said. The winds were expected to raise sea levels as much as 9 feet in the Norton Sound. Those levels combined with the high waves were expected to cause significant coastal erosion and major flooding. The winds may also push sea ice on shore, adding to the dangers, NWS forecasters said.

Alaska's west coast could also see as much as 14 inches of snow in blizzard conditions, forecasters said. The storm was expected to last into Wednesday.

Monitored 4125 and recorded all night. Got nothing except the usual KWL38 NWS weather net.

Yeah I read a few articles that said the fishing fleets have more/less wrapped their seasons -- and most had already prepared in advance for the approaching storm system.
