Hello,

The clock will be turned back on Saturday, June 11, 2005, when a transmitter broadcasting on an original FM frequency will be switched on at the Alpine Tower in Alpine, NJ, to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the first public demonstration of FM radio by its inventor Major Edwin Howard Armstrong. A special program, hosted by WINS Anchorwoman Judy DeAngelis, will originate from the site of the world's first FM station in Alpine. The broadcast will begin at 12 noon.

Thanks Eric / Even with skip season being high, I don't think I'll catch it here in Denver :( . If someone tapes it, and post it here on the RR website, that would be cool.

Thanks mancow! / I plan on being at a hamfest, but maybe someone will have a laptop & access to the internet. That will be a neat way to strike up a conversation at the hamfest 8) .

I tried listening for this today but was unable to receive the broadcast. I am in Ocean County and have a multiband yagi at about 60feet pointed north. I was using my RS Pro2006 set for 42.8Mhz WFM mode but got nothing. I guess I am too far south for the 250W ERP to make it. Did anyone else tune into the 42.8Mhz broadcast and have any success?

You should have had your scanner in NFM mode. It's been my experience that WFM is for broadcast stations, especially when listening to FM and TV audio freqs.

I was able to receive the Alpine transmissions but audio was badly distorted. Tried several different antennas but clarity was really crumby here in the central portion of beautiful, fragrant, New Jersey. Tried both N and W FM with no appreciable difference. Wonder if we can get a QSL card?
