Glad you like the app. Yes, it currently requires an Internet connection for use on a mobile device.

Thanks for the reply. That's too bad. Just out of curiosity, why does an application like this need internet connection? Is it just because the browser is hosting it?

If you were in your truck and across town, how would you expect to be able to connect to it from your phone/tablet/laptop without an internet connection or a very, very, long cable? ;)

Deskins;

Your software is simply amanzing! What a great idea and a fantastic implementation. Works right out of the box, instructions were perfect, and opens up a whole new world of scanning for me.

Job well done and thank you for your efforts. They are very much appreciated.

What on Earth are you talking about? Is that an attempt at humor?

I was assuming you we going to have a small computer(Winbook perhaps?) connected to the scanner running as a server and use your phone/tablet as a client\remote head in the truck. Although at that point, the Winbook could act as the remote head....hmmmm.
I was going for the same thing...maybe just have the Winbook on a tablet mount
in the truck.

I just want to control and view the scanner with the laptop interface rather than the scanner keypad and display because it is much easier and far more visible. Very basic. Is there another app that can do this like Freescan does with BCD396XT? The Scanner Monitor interface would be perfect other than it is not mobile because it needs Internet connection. It would be nice if there was an offline mode.

It uses webRTC, it only needs an internet connection to connect to a STUN server to setup the network traversal.

As woodpecker mentioned - it does require Internet if using a mobile device for sending audio/data - or for monitoring on a remote computer.

If the scanner is connected to the laptop and you use the laptop interface - then no Internet connection is required.

Yes, that is what I what to do. I have a laptop that is in my truck. I want to have my BCDD436HP connected to the laptop via the USB cable it came with and use the laptop screen and keyboard to control/view the scanner rather than using the radio's display and keypad. That is it. Going by your last sentance, this IS possible WO internet. Correct?

You can test that locally by disabling your Internet to verify. I can't think of anything requiring the Internet if you are using the laptop keyboard to control the scanner that is connected to it.

Thank you. I'm sure I can do that to test. The reason I have not done that (which you would think is an obvious course of action) is I was having trouble with the serial driver. It is an old laptop and I am Windows illiterate (Mac guy). I wanted to rule that issue out as a reason I could not use it. I think this has been resolved now.

Thank you!

I just wanted to say thank you for building this, and double thanks for hosting a remote communication proxy! It works great, a couple things are finicky but I think that's just the scanner behavior and possibly serial communication delay. I'd love to develop my own Python based interface for the scanner, but haven't found enough time to do so, so this is an awesome solution until then.

My only suggestion would be to add the full controls to the remote end (Scanner Monitor) like the menu, function, directional buttons, the same things that are on the Chrome application.

Great App

Stumbled across this app trying to learn all about my 436HP and have to say "Great Job"
So much easier to see at my age. Also takes some wear and tear off the scanner controls.
Love it!
