Tried again this morning. Same issue. I also checked extensions. There was only one thing there that was not enabled. I removed it and tried again. Same issue. I tried something else and got the same error. Cannot add ANY google app to my account. Any ideas? Using an HP with windows 7. Use google as default browser and email for years.

This appears to be a Google Chrome issue on your computer since no apps can be installed, including the Scanner Monitor app.

Not to get too off topic with this thread - but you may even see a message "Updates blocked by admin" under the About Google Chrome menu. Found a post where others were talking about this browser issue here ->

One user reinstalled Chrome to fix the issue. If you do - be sure to have a backup of your bookmarks in case they don't sync back up.

I was able to connect my BCD436HP over the serial port to a Chrome browser-based application I created and was able to display the scanner information to the screen. Since this is a Chrome App, it "should" work on either Mac or Windows. The only requirement seems to be that you have Google Chrome browser installed and a Google account in order to download from the Chrome Web Store.

I have been running this app several times over the last couple weeks on my Mac with no issues. Have also tested some on Windows with VMWare and everything seems to be working.

This app polls the scanner over the serial port and displays the information returned. It has a hit counter to easily see which sites are the most active. Text-to-speech is also available and it will speak the channel text when there is a hit. The font-size increases as you take the window fullscreen if you need to see it from a distance.

Since I have only tested this on my 436, I am holding off making this app searchable on the web store for the general public. However, for anyone in this forum that wants to test it, here is a direct link to the application in the store. For now, it's called Scanner Monitor.

https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/scanner-monitor/akdhehcennfolejaoepmldgcgpfkehhj

This app currently only has a limited set of features, but I would like to get some feedback and curious if it also works with the BCD536HP.

What would be sweat is if you made this work with WIFI... and made a Android version of it!

It already does that. Just click the Enable Remote button once scanner is connected and log into the scannermonitor.com website. The screenshot from this earlier post is from my Android phone. Also remote control works on iPad/iPhone. The scanner is the only thing that needs to be connected to a computer with the Chrome app.

Yes I know that now.

I'm sitting here right now streaming my scanner into my phone and using scanner monitor to see what is displaying on my scanner and I'm also sitting here using the taptatalk app and posting to the forum all from my phone.

You gotta love the 21st century. [emoji4]

I only wish that my grandfather Earnie Hayes was here to see how far we've come with scanners and how advanced they have become. [emoji20]

One little thing. When the scanner lands on the local airport stuff. The information flashes, on and off, on and off... doesn't do that on other stuff. Weird...

I am getting this as well on AM (Citizens Band)

I found the issue why some frequencies are causing the display to flash "scanning" in the Scanner Monitor app while still on the channel. It appears that some of the frequencies in the scanner database end with an unseen tab character that is throwing off the parsing of the data for display.

I have a fix for this and will be available very soon with the next release. FYI - The next release should also add the ability to stream audio from your scanner to another computer or an Android phone.

I don't know if this has been addressed, does the 436 charge while connected in serial mode? If not will it work if I use the USB to charge and the other port to send data to the app? I haven't tried it yet but I will tonight, just wondering if any others have done this...

436 charges when it turned off. Get a battery charger.

Yep. Reinstalled chrome (needed to upgrade from 39 to 40 anyway. The app immediately worked fine. Registered at your website and the remote works great too. Currently listening to a commercial buildinf fire down the street while watching the app.

Once you have the streaming audio this will do about everything except capture the radio id. Nice app. Now that it worked great on the 536 will need to try it on the HP-1 and HP-2.

Yup. TTY came up as /dev/ttyACM0.

No timestamp. Would like that ... Since I'm asking, the ability to sort columns might be fun, too. Does not appear to show UIDs, only TGIDs and Tags. Hit counter is nice.

EDIT: I sit corrected. UIDs do too show up! Cool!
Where are you seeing UID'S s?

John

I hope to have a donation link available for those who find the app useful after I release the audio streaming feature. I do have server expenses to allow for the remote control functionality.

Thanks,
Jeff

I think you should get hired by Uniden & have Uniden buy the app from you! You are providing the one thing they promised & never delivered on...
