I tried to use the app with my IPAD. I have Google Chrome on the IPAD, but went to download the ScannerMonitor app and says your system does not support Chrome Apps at this time. What are folks using for their IPADs with this app? Thank you.

Yeah, I need the instructions to be clearer on that. No app required for iPad to remote control your scanner - just a web browser.

The only app required is the Scanner Monitor Chrome app on the computer with the serial connection to your 436/536 scanner. To access your scanner remotely from iPad or any other device - simply go to scannermonitor.com website and create an account. It is this account that will connect your app to your iPad. On the Chrome app - click Enable Remote and login with that account.

Deskins,
OK, I think I have an account already, but if not, will create one. Might get an Android just to use with your audio application. Thanks for your great work. Will gladly donate to the cause.

How is the 536HP connected to the iPad?

To control a 536HP or 436HP from an iPad or any other device, the scanner must first be connected with the serial connection directly to a computer/laptop that has the Scanner Monitor Chrome app installed (not directly to an iPad).

Once the app is up and communicating with the scanner, you can create an account at scannermonitor.com and log in with a web browser on any iPad, iPhone, Android, etc to see and control the scanner. This allows you to use the mobile device as a remote control for the scanner.

Jeff,

Got it! I have the iPad up and running and your app is working great! Thank you very much!

Your App, my iPad, my Bluetooth Transmitter and Bose Speaker, I can take them outside or anywhere in the house.

Thanks,
Dave

There shouldn't be any issues like there are with the WAV Header Reader. As far as I can tell, the GLG command (which is what this program uses, IIRC)'s output has not changed.

The PSI and GSI commands that the RH536 program uses have a tremendously better form of output than GLG (in my opinion).

GLG gives you a limited amount of data based on what is on the screen of the device. From my 436:

Code:
GLG,0154.8300,NFM,0,82,Rockyview,Moose Mountain,RCMP A15,1,0,,,NONE

PSI gives you XML data which you can parse to your heart's content. From my 536:

Code:
PSI,<XML>,
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<ScannerInfo Mode="Scan Mode" V_Screen="conventional_scan">
  <MonitorList Name="Local" Index="2" ListType="FL" Q_Key="1" N_Tag="1" DB_Counter="0" />
  <System Name="Rockyview" Index="19894" Avoid="Off" SystemType="Conventional" Q_Key="44" N_Tag="44" Hold="Off" />
  <Department Name="Moose Mountain" Index="19902" Avoid="Off" Q_Key="15" Hold="Off" />
  <ConvFrequency Name="RCMP A15" Index="19904" Avoid="Off" Freq=" 154.8300MHz" Mod="NFM" N_Tag="None" Hold="Off" SvcType="Law Dispatch" P_Ch="Off" SAS="CTCSS 123.0Hz" SAL="Off" SAD="CTCSS 123.0Hz" LVL="0" IFX="Off" />
  <AGC A_AGC="On" D_AGC="On" />
  <DualWatch PRI="Off" CC="Off" WX="Off" />
  <Property F="Off" VOL="1" SQL="4" Sig="5" WiFi="3" Att="Off" Rec="Off" KeyLock="Off" P25Status="None" Mute="Unmute" Backlight="100" A_Led="Off" Dir="Up" Rssi="1.482" />
  <ViewDescription>
    <InfoArea1 Text="F0:-1----67--" />
    <InfoArea2 Text="S4:0---4-----" />
  </ViewDescription>
</ScannerInfo>

GSI seems to give the same thing. I believe PSI stands for Push Scanner Information, meaning the scanner will send data continuously for a period of time, and GSI is Get Scanner Information, which retrieves the data only once.

Those commands are not present in the 436 (yet; I suspect that the eventual firmware upgrade that will 'catch it up' to the 536 will bring those features along), so deskins may not want to mess with his program yet.

Thanks for the update. I was concerned that some of the commands weren't backwards compatible. I can continue preparing for the release of the audio streaming version and not change the existing commands.

I can also move forward in adding features for the scanners that do have the new commands available from the latest firmware. I can test for that when the scanner connects.

The new release of the Scanner Monitor app will feature near real-time audio streaming. For mobile devices, this new technology is currently only available for Android Chrome browsers. This ability to remotely control a 536 OR 436 from a remote computer or mobile device does not require any firmware updates, no port forwarding, and no additional apps to install. It will require the scanner to be connected to a computer with an Internet connection and an audio cable connecting the two. The remote device just needs a capable web browser.

Thanks,
Jeff

Awesome Software / Some Win 7 info

This scanner monitor software is AWESOME!. Well done Jeff. Thank you for sharing this.

I am using it on a Windows 7 PC and on the tablet side using a Samsung Android tablet.

Some notes for others setting this up.

I did have to install the Uniden Windows USB drivers which I found at BCD436HP < UnidenMan4 < TWiki

Once these are installed you should see the scanner show up as a COM port once you select the serial
option on the scanner.

Once I plugged in the stereo audio cable from the 436 into my PC, I had to change the Windows 7 default recording device in the Sound settings to the microphone line in the scanner was plugged into. The default will have the green check mark next to it.

I assume the scanner monitor desktop application uses windows default setting since it only worked once I changed the Windows setting. Once I changed this the audio started streaming fine.

Thanks again Jeff. Well done.

Thanks,
John, N3LUD

Everything works fine for me except audio. Something about audio not streaming to server. Remote features are working fine.
Says connected at first then it shows "Could not connect to peer remote.

Dan,

The audio works only on select browsers at this time - primarily Chrome or Firefox. iOS devices have yet to adopt this type of peer-to-peer audio streaming in browsers on their systems. You can use this link to see compatible browser versions.

If I understand it correctly the "Desktop App" only works in the Chrome browser.
It would be very nice to have a "Desktop App" for Firefox / Pale Moon....

Sure but why? Nothing wrong with Chrome. Its not bloated, its stable, & its not like you have to browse the web with it. Although, I do...

Time for a quick troubleshoot. Using a 536.

I just downloaded Chrome on a WinBook tablet running Windows 8. I downloaded Scanner Monitor. I connected to the mini-USB in the front. I pressed the ./no button for serial mode. It made a ding sound and proceeded to download files on the tablet. Side note: the 536 is already set up to use Sentinel on the WinBook and has worked properly.

I loaded up Scanner Monitor and it is only showing (COM1) in the port selection and will not connect. I must be overlooking something very small, but can't pinpoint where I erred. Any suggestions?
